What's Working

I've assessed the changes I made back in June, joining the writing sprints of the Author Hive Mind, led by author J. Alex Ruiz, and joined by many successful authors. It's working. Having a weekly pre-set schedule to write with others on Zoom is keeping me tethered to my computer and moving forward on projects. Do I always accomplish everything on my weekly goals list? No, but I'm showing up more, dedicating the time, and doing what I have to do to move forward.

The critique group I joined (also courtesy of author J. Alex Ruiz), is also working. These writers offer honest and strong editorial feedback. Their grammatical suggestions are also welcomed (I apparently didn't know when to use lay vs lie until someone pointed it out to me!) This genuinely supportive group has already reviewed two of my short stories and using their input, I've edited them into a final form to submit to online journals.

September means my Charles River Writing Collective group, led by Kelly DuMar, will start meeting again with generative and critique classes every other week. This group offers a great source of inspiration for new stories and another set of eyes to critique my work.

I'm entering September after a very busy summer excited to put my head down and write! What are you excited for now that summer is ending? Drop me a comment and let me know!

Great post. Thanks for sending the link.

Not that I've noticed it in your writing, but less vs. fewer is also challenging. Use less when you can't numerically quantify the subject (I have less gas in my tank since my trip to Vermont). Use fewer when you can or have counted the subject (I make fewer trips to the gas station now that I own a hybrid car.)
